Worktop fabrication in Tulse Hill
Your slab nested, cut to the template drawing, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded.
Tulse Hill kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Wide doors, generous rooms and somewhere to park mean the joins that go in are the ones we choose, not the ones the building forces. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. The drawing decides it before the saw does.
A high proportion of subdivided villas means kitchens on upper floors in rooms never designed for them, with the run set against an internal wall and services chased in later. The 1960s blocks have compact kitchens with a fixed sink under the window and a hatch or opening to the living room.
Estate blocks have lifts but small cars, and the South Circular traffic dictates arrival timing.
A range sitting in a chimney recess is common, and the flanking pieces are cut with the manufacturer clearance built into the template. Access is off a drive and through wide doors, so for once the piece size is not the constraint - the joins that go in are the ones we choose for layout and veining, not the ones the building forces. Every join over a gable, clear of every cut-out.
On these streets the housing is Victorian villa converted to flats, 1960s estate block, Interwar semi and Postwar low-rise. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
The research on this patch does not put this among the three commonest jobs. Worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop templating do. That changes how often we are here, not how the work is done.
period detached houses and villas
The building, and what it does to the job
Upper-floor kitchens in converted villas mean everything is carried up two flights, so the piece count matters more than the piece size — keep the number of separate carries down.

Getting stone into the room
The area is hilly with houses set above the road on stepped front gardens, so there is a climb before you reach the door and then two or three flights inside.
Piece length is set by the internal diagonal of the lift car, not by the length of the slab. The maximum piece length is fixed at drawing stage and every join is placed over a cabinet gable from there. Once the cut-outs are machined there is no going back on it.

Questions
Worktop fabrication in Tulse Hill
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Tulse Hill?
Yes. Tulse Hill is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SW2. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Unrestricted kerbside is straightforward as long as the space in front of the property is actually clear when the van arrives. Where unloading has to happen in one go, the load order is planned so nothing has to come off twice. The load plan follows from it. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Tulse Hill change how worktop fabrication works?
Original walls are thick, lime-plastered and rarely straight, which makes dry-laying and scribing the bulk of the fitting day. Islands here regularly run longer than a slab, so the join is nested to sit over an internal gable and positioned so it does not run through the hob cut-out, and on a heavily veined stone we nest the island and the back run together so the movement relates across the room. The bench proves it before the van moves. Upper-floor kitchens in converted villas mean everything is carried up two flights, so the piece count matters more than the piece size — keep the number of separate carries down.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Tulse Hill?
The area is hilly with houses set above the road on stepped front gardens, so there is a climb before you reach the door and then two or three flights inside. Estate blocks have lifts but small cars, and the South Circular traffic dictates arrival timing. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. The maximum piece length is fixed at drawing stage and every join is placed over a cabinet gable from there. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Tulse Hill really a worktop fabrication area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop templating. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Party-wall and lease conditions in a converted building set when noisy work can happen, which shapes the fitting day more than the kitchen does. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Same slab run, or it is not a match. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. Pieces are dry-assembled and checked on the bench before anything is loaded. Same slab run, or it is not a match.
Why do two Tulse Hill kitchens the same size price differently?
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A join that lands in the wrong place cannot be moved once the cut-outs are machined, so it is settled on the drawing. The bench proves it before the van does. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Where a run finishes into a reveal, the depth of that reveal is taken at worktop height and nowhere else. Internal corners are machined with a radius and polished, and kept well clear of any join or cut-out. Machined to the real line. The range or Aga, the sink and the tap all need to be confirmed by model before nesting, because their clearances and hole positions set where the island can be cut. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. The workshop works from the approved drawing, so whoever signs it off is signing off the join positions too. The approved drawing is the instruction.
