Worktop installation in New Eltham
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
New Eltham kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. One visit, our own installers.
Wider interwar plots than Eltham proper with more detached houses and chalet bungalows, so kitchens are square rather than long — usually reworked into a U with a peninsula. A fair number of bungalow kitchens have low ceilings and window sills that sit close to the worktop.
Good: nearly every house has a drive or hardstanding, the roads are wide and turning space is easy, with pinch points only around the station and the shops.
Where the roof has been converted there is usually a steel over the kitchen that went in after the walls, and the run beneath it is worth checking for square. The fitting itself is slower than the carry: original plaster on the party wall and around the old chimney breast is rarely square to the run, so back scribes get cut on site, and where a return wraps into a breast recess we template that shoulder tight and ease it in. That is the shape of the day.
The mix here is 1930s semi, interwar chalet bungalow, 1960s detached and postwar infill. They are not interchangeable, and a worktop finds the differences quickly.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
The research on this patch puts this at the top of the list, above worktop replacement and worktop design & quotation.

The building, and what it does to the job
Low sills under the sink window are common in the bungalows — check upstand height at template stage or you'll be cutting on site.

Getting stone into the room
Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. We would rather ask than guess.

Getting stone into a New Eltham kitchen
Good: nearly every house has a drive or hardstanding, the roads are wide and turning space is easy, with pinch points only around the station and the shops.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in New Eltham
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in New Eltham, or just list it?
Yes. New Eltham is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE9. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. A van that has to move mid-fit costs the best part of an hour and takes a man off the tools to do it. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in New Eltham?
Wide doorways and level thresholds mean full-length pieces go in whole and the join count comes down to slab length alone. The carry is the easy part; the plaster around the old breast and the packing over a moved floor are not. That is the shape of the day. Low sills under the sink window are common in the bungalows — check upstand height at template stage or you'll be cutting on site.
Is access a problem in New Eltham?
Good: nearly every house has a drive or hardstanding, the roads are wide and turning space is easy, with pinch points only around the station and the shops. The van gets close to the door and the stone comes off the tail lift onto a trolley, which is about the shortest carry we ever get. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. None of it is worked out on the doorstep. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is New Eltham mostly worktop installation work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop replacement and worktop design & quotation. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. The fitting day is scheduled to suit that rather than to suit the diary. Sealed before we leave.
What decides the price of a worktop in New Eltham?
A U shape uses more linear metres than people expect, and the two returns rarely nest together, so a second slab is a genuine possibility. A layout that has been packed and levelled run by run instead of to one datum shows as a step where two pieces meet. The join is the last thing finished. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Where a run finishes into a reveal, the depth of that reveal is taken at worktop height and nowhere else. Rushing that is what leaves a gap you look at every morning for fifteen years. Eased in, never forced. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. An owner living in the house makes the decisions and lives with them, so the specification tends to go towards the material rather than towards the lowest total. A half-day of access is not a fitting day, and it is better to say so at booking than to find out at eleven. Protection goes down first.
