Worktop templating in Little Venice
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Little Venice kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
These are the multi-piece jobs, where vein direction across a join matters as much as the join itself. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Stucco villas have a raised front entrance with six or seven stone steps. Canal-side streets are narrow with permit bays and bridge weight and width limits at Warwick Avenue, and several buildings back onto the towpath with no vehicle access at all. Boat galleys need thin, light material and radiused edges cut to a hull curve - it is a template-and-fabricate job, nothing about it is standard kitchen dimensions. There is also a small but real market in narrowboat galleys, where the top is under 500mm deep and cut to a curve. Regency villas around the canal have been split into large flats with high-ceilinged kitchens, usually a 3.5m run with a slim island and a lot of glass onto the garden square.
Rooms are formally proportioned with deep reveals and shutter boxes, so runs under windows are templated to what is actually there. One datum for the whole room, because a floor that falls end to end shows as a step between island and perimeter. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
The buildings themselves are mostly Regency stucco villa, Victorian terrace conversion, 1930s mansion block and houseboat. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

The shape of the run
Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. The drawing leaves site complete.

What gets asked for here
Of everything we do around here, this is the one that comes up most, with worktop fabrication and worktop installation behind it.
period detached houses and villas
True everywhere, stated once
A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Getting stone into a Little Venice kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in Little Venice
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Little Venice?
Yes. Little Venice is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are W9. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. A controlled parking zone means either a visitor permit sorted in advance or a suspended bay, and a suspension is applied for days ahead rather than on the morning. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Little Venice change how worktop templating works?
Rooms are formally proportioned with deep reveals and shutter boxes, so runs under windows are templated to what is actually there. Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room, so the templater sets a single datum and works every run and the island off it rather than levelling each wall in isolation. Two to three hours, once the units are in. Boat galleys need thin, light material and radiused edges cut to a hull curve - it is a template-and-fabricate job, nothing about it is standard kitchen dimensions.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Little Venice?
Canal-side streets are narrow with permit bays and bridge weight and width limits at Warwick Avenue, and several buildings back onto the towpath with no vehicle access at all. Stucco villas have a raised front entrance with six or seven stone steps. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. The laser records it along with everything else. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Little Venice mostly worktop templating work for you?
Yes. On the research for this patch it is the first of the three jobs listed, ahead of worktop fabrication and worktop installation. In a converted house the flat entrance and the internal doorway are usually tighter than the communal stairs, and that is easy to overlook. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Units fitted, fixed and level first. Party-wall and lease conditions in a converted building set when noisy work can happen, which shapes the fitting day more than the kitchen does. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order.
Why do two Little Venice kitchens the same size price differently?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. Real angles, not plan angles. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Alcove pieces get cut oversize on both scribe edges, with the true wall angles carried on the template drawing rather than assumed. It is recorded on the drawing with the run dimensions so the workshop is not guessing. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. All runs and the island carcass fixed down and levelled to one datum, with the sink, tap and hob on site - an island cannot be templated while it is still loose or sitting on packers. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.
