Worktop templating in Honor Oak

A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.

Honor Oak kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

1930s Honor Oak Estate housingVictorian terracepostwar maisonette block

Dense concrete and blockwork mean the wall cannot be chased back or packed out, so the stone carries the scribe. Two to three hours on site with a laser, once the units are fitted, fixed and level. Sink, tap and hob on site, not on order.

Largely interwar and postwar municipal housing on the hill — small square kitchens with a back door and a boiler cupboard and a single run under 3m. Alterations are usually taking out the wall to the dining room rather than extending.

Stepped approaches off the estate roads mean the last ten metres is a stair carry with no barrow option. Estate roads on a steep slope with parking courts and stepped front paths, and some blocks reached only from an upper road with a flight of steps down to the entrance.

Many have been extended at the rear since being sold, so the kitchen is half original and half newer with a floor junction between the two. Concrete and dense block walls in ex-council stock cannot be chased back or packed out to suit, so the template takes the wall exactly as it is and the stone carries the scribe. No stone is ever cut from a plan.

What turns up on the job sheets is 1930s Honor Oak Estate housing, Victorian terrace and postwar maisonette block. That mix is why two jobs on the same road can run completely differently.

True everywhere

Worktop templating, in short

  • Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
  • Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
  • Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
  • A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.

Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here

Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. Fitted, fixed and level, then we come.

It is on the shortlist for this patch rather than at the top of it, because worktop replacement comes up more often. Nothing about the process differs between the two.

ex-local-authority flats and estates

True everywhere, stated once

A template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended. How far those two things diverge is entirely a function of when the house was built.

Questions

Worktop templating in Honor Oak

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Do you cover Honor Oak?

Yes. Honor Oak is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE23. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Where the van can pull up level with the gate the pieces are handled the fewest times, which is what actually protects them. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Does the housing in Honor Oak change how worktop templating works?

Rear access through a garden or a shared path means long pieces can usually come in whole from the back. Concrete and dense block walls in ex-council stock cannot be chased back or packed out to suit, so the template takes the wall exactly as it is and the stone carries the scribe. Two to three hours, once the units are in. Stepped approaches off the estate roads mean the last ten metres is a stair carry with no barrow option.

How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Honor Oak?

Estate roads on a steep slope with parking courts and stepped front paths, and some blocks reached only from an upper road with a flight of steps down to the entrance. A walk-up with winders at every half-landing means the piece is rested and re-gripped on the way, so the crew size goes up before the piece size comes down. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. The laser records it along with everything else. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.

Is worktop templating common in Honor Oak?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Where kitchens turn over between tenancies the priority is a surface that survives a decade of being treated as a chopping board. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. The room as it is, not as it was drawn. A worktop replacement between tenancies is a single-day job by design, because the flat is not earning while it is empty. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. Units fitted, fixed and level first.

Why do two Honor Oak kitchens the same size price differently?

Two parallel runs with a walkway between them is the most efficient shape there is on a slab, because both pieces nest as straight lengths with almost no waste. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. One datum for the whole room. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What has to be finished before you can template?

Legs bottoming out on hard concrete or an uneven screed mean the tops of the carcasses are not one plane, and that is picked up at template rather than on fitting day. It is recorded on the drawing with the run dimensions so the workshop is not guessing. Plotted, not estimated. Every base unit fixed to the wall, packed and levelled with the laser, and any dry-lining or patching completed - the template reads the wall face it is given, so that has to be the finished face. These kitchens tend to be compact and reasonably square, so the fixed template, fabrication and fitting lines are a larger share of the total than the stone is. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. Appliances on site, not on order.
