Your slab nested, cut to the template drawing, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded.
Wallington kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Long perimeter runs and an island mean level has to hold across the whole room rather than along any one wall. The workshop works to the template drawing and to the measured route, in that order. The drawing decides it before the saw does.
Tree-lined roads near the station with substantial Edwardian and inter-war houses, so kitchens are often in a rear return that gets widened, giving a long run plus a peninsula or a compact island. A fair number of the Edwardian villas have been split into flats with kitchens fitted into former bedrooms.
Recessed Edwardian porches are narrower than the front door opening, so the real constraint is the porch, and we measure that rather than the door frame.
A large villa has wide doors, a generous hall and somewhere to park, so the joins that go in are chosen for layout rather than forced by the route. Access is off a drive and through wide doors, so for once the piece size is not the constraint - the joins that go in are the ones we choose for layout and veining, not the ones the building forces. Settled on the drawing, cut once.
On these streets the housing is Edwardian villa, 1930s semi, 1930s detached and 1960s flats. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
period detached houses and villas
Getting stone into the room
Mature street trees with low branches make van positioning awkward on some roads, and the villas sit behind long front paths with a tiled step up to a recessed porch.
A narrow entrance hall with a turn into the back of the house caps the longest piece we can physically get in, whatever the run itself measures. The maximum piece length is fixed at drawing stage and every join is placed over a cabinet gable from there. Once the cut-outs are machined there is no going back on it.

What gets asked for here
Honestly, this is not what we do most on this patch. Worktop templating, worktop installation and worktop replacement come up more often. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work, and nothing about how it is quoted, cut or fitted changes because of it.

Is Wallington on your patch?
Yes. Wallington is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SM6. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. On a street with no restrictions the constraint is other residents rather than a warden, so it is worth putting a cone or a car out early. It rarely changes what we cut, but it does change how the pieces are stacked and strapped for the run out. The load plan follows from it. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop fabrication in Wallington be any different from anywhere else?
A large villa has wide doors, a generous hall and somewhere to park, so the joins that go in are chosen for layout rather than forced by the route. Islands here regularly run longer than a slab, so the join is nested to sit over an internal gable and positioned so it does not run through the hob cut-out, and on a heavily veined stone we nest the island and the back run together so the movement relates across the room. Every join over a gable, clear of every cut-out. Recessed Edwardian porches are narrower than the front door opening, so the real constraint is the porch, and we measure that rather than the door frame.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Wallington?
Mature street trees with low branches make van positioning awkward on some roads, and the villas sit behind long front paths with a tiled step up to a recessed porch. Door width, hall width and the diagonal at the turn are three separate measurements, and it is the diagonal that catches people out. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. Once the cut-outs are machined there is no going back on it. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Wallington really a worktop fabrication area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop templating, worktop installation and worktop replacement. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. So the nesting is planned around it rather than around a standard kitchen. Proven on the bench before dispatch. A kitchen carved out of a larger room sits under whatever the original plan left behind, so the run frequently ends at a blocked doorway or a boxed-in service. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Proven on the bench before dispatch.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. The nest is laid out around that, with joins placed over cabinet gables and kept clear of every cut-out. The bench proves it before the van does. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Wallington?
Legs bottoming out on hard concrete or an uneven screed mean the tops of the carcasses are not one plane, and that is picked up at template rather than on fitting day. The template drawing carries the real geometry through to the saw, and the piece is machined to it rather than trimmed to it later. Machined to the real line. The range or Aga, the sink and the tap all need to be confirmed by model before nesting, because their clearances and hole positions set where the island can be cut. The householder is normally on site at template, and that is the right time to settle sink position, tap centres and overhang rather than agree them by email. Sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch, whoever supplied them. The approved drawing is the instruction.
