Worktop replacement in Waddon
Taking out a tired laminate worktop and fitting stone on the units you already have, in a single day.
Waddon kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A side passage and a back door mean the stone rarely has to come through the house, which changes the job more than most people expect. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the job is a day, and what makes it a difficult day is the building. A single day, planned properly.
Mostly inter-war semis with a square-ish rear kitchen and a side passage, where the usual upgrade is knocking through to the dining room for an L-shaped kitchen with a peninsula.
Good vehicle access with driveways on most residential roads, though anything near Purley Way means retail traffic and awkward turns in and out. Newer flats near Purley Way have small developer-spec galleys.
The classic arrangement is the original back room with a later extension bolted onto it, so the kitchen is two ages of building in one room. The kitchen is normally the original back room with a later side-return or rear extension bolted on, and that helps us: most pieces can go down the side alley and in through the back door in one length, so we can avoid joins that a front-door route would force. What is under the old top is the real question.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to 1930s semi, inter-war estate housing, post-war terrace and modern flats off Purley Way. A quote that ignores which one you have is guessing.
True everywhere
Worktop replacement, in short
- The units stay. Only the surface changes.
- Old tops come out in the morning, new stone is down and sealed the same day.
- A plumber disconnects the tap and waste before we arrive and reconnects at the end of the day.
- The carcasses have to be sound: stone is far heavier than laminate.
Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
1930s and inter-war semis
The building, and what it does to the job
Knocking a semi's kitchen into the dining room leaves a downstand beam and a floor level change at the threshold, so the run has to be set out from the new opening and not the old wall.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop installation. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.

Getting stone into the room
Rear access usually lets us fit longer pieces whole, so the join count ends up decided by the slab rather than by the building. With no room to turn, the old top gets cut up in the kitchen instead, which is dusty work and needs the room emptied first. The strip-out is planned around it.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop replacement in Waddon
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Waddon?
Yes. Waddon is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are CR0. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. Waste is the part people forget: the old laminate or tired granite has to be walked back to the van and it does not get lighter. The waste run is planned, not improvised. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Waddon change how worktop replacement works?
A side alley and a back door mean most pieces go in whole, and it is the alley width rather than the front door that decides it. What catches people out is the junction between the old floor and the extension floor, which is rarely at the same level, so a run carrying across it needs the units packed before stone goes on. What is under the old top is the real question. Knocking a semi's kitchen into the dining room leaves a downstand beam and a floor level change at the threshold, so the run has to be set out from the new opening and not the old wall.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Waddon?
Good vehicle access with driveways on most residential roads, though anything near Purley Way means retail traffic and awkward turns in and out. Garden routes carry their own hazards: a drain cover, a step up to a patio, wet decking, or a lawn that will not take a loaded trolley. Worth remembering that the old tops have to come out the way the new ones come in, and a laminate run is easier to remove in one length than to carry in one. It sets what the day actually looks like. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Do you do much worktop replacement around Waddon?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop installation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Handover-spec kitchens are square, plumb and predictable, which means the join count is honest and driven by run length rather than by the building. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A day, not a project. Upgrading a builder-finish kitchen is mostly a swap, so the cost sits in the material choice rather than in the shape of the room. The units stay and only the surface changes, so the whole job is one day rather than a kitchen refit. A day, not a project.
Why do two Waddon kitchens the same size price differently?
Two runs meeting at an internal corner is the most common shape we fit, and the corner is where the decisions are. The existing layout is being kept, so the question is whether the old carcasses will take stone in that shape without more support. The units stay, the surface changes. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
Level has to hold across the whole room rather than along one wall, or a floor that falls end to end shows as a step where two pieces meet. We would rather find it at template than on the morning, which is why the templater looks behind the units. The laminate has been covering it up. Unlock the side gate and clear the alley of bins, bikes and pots, and arrange a plumber for the sink and an electrician if the hob is hard-wired. Managed stock usually comes with its own rules about working hours, waste, and who is allowed on site. A plumber disconnects before we arrive and reconnects after we leave, and that is worth booking early. Plumber either side of us.
