A long piece has to come through the front door, down the hall, round the newel post and through a doorway with a step down into the addition. Pieces are sized to the tightest turn on the route before anything is nested to the slab. The bench proves it before the van moves. Check the side alley clear width at template - an 800mm gap will not pass a 900mm deep island top no matter how it is angled.

Wider streets and front gardens mean you can generally get a van reasonably close, but the front paths have steps and low gate posts and the side alleys between houses are frequently under 800mm clear. If the rear route is on, use it; if not, everything goes down a hallway with a stair spindle at the far end. Rear access usually lets us fit longer pieces whole, so the join count ends up decided by the slab rather than by the building. So the nesting is worked to the measured route first and to the slab second. It is settled on the bench, not on site. The return piece is the awkward one on a slab: short, full depth, and rarely nesting neatly against the long lengths, so yield rather than area is what moves the material figure. The nest is laid out around that, with joins placed over cabinet gables and kept clear of every cut-out. That is nested before any glass goes on the saw. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

Floors settle, and once base units are packed and levelled properly the stone sits true while everything else in the room admits it is not. Internal corners are machined with a radius and polished, and kept well clear of any join or cut-out. Machined to the real line. The sink and hob need to be on site and the run layout fixed before we start cutting, because moving a hob after the join position is set means recutting the whole piece. Mixed ownership means the decision-maker is not always the person who lets us in, so it is worth being clear early about who signs the quote off. Sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch, whoever supplied them. Changes cost a piece, not a tweak.
