Worktop fabrication in Shadwell
Your slab nested, cut to the template drawing, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded.
Shadwell kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Plasterboard partitions mean light scribes and clean joins, and the fabrication effort moves to the visible faces instead. Pieces are cut, mitred, machined and dry-assembled on the bench before anything is loaded onto a van. Joins over gables, always.
Newer towers near the station have compact open-plan kitchens with a short island of 1.6m to 2m.
The older blocks have separate kitchens of about 2.2m in an L, often serving large households, with heavy daily use and a preference for hard-wearing dark quartz. Heavy-use family kitchens here get an honest conversation about edge chipping and overhang support rather than the thinnest profile available. The through road is a red route and the market street is closed to vehicles during trading, so timing the drop matters more than distance.
Dot-and-dab plasterboard bellies at a taped internal angle, so the run picks up a few millimetres over the last 300mm and a plan-angle mitre will not close. We work to the internal depth of the car and the diagonal you can actually stand a piece up on with the doors closed, then nest to that, which routinely turns a two-piece kitchen into a three-piece one with an extra join over a gable. Settled on the drawing, cut once.
The stock behind these kitchens runs to post-war council block, 1980s dock-edge housing and 2010s onwards residential tower. Which of those you have decides most of what follows.
True everywhere
Worktop fabrication, in short
- Slabs come in finite sizes, so a long run needs a join.
- Joins sit over a cabinet gable, never spanning a gap or running through a cut-out.
- A finished join is typically 2–3mm, colour-matched and sanded flush.
- Your sink and hob are dry-fitted on the bench before dispatch.
Covered from the Essex patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
The research on this patch does not put this among the three commonest jobs. Worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop design & quotation do. That changes how often we are here, not how the work is done.
ex-local-authority flats and estates
Getting stone into the room
Estate blocks have small lifts and long deck walkways; the new towers have a service lift but need a permit-to-work and a booked slot from the managing agent.
A car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a three-metre worktop however it is stood, and there is no trimming it on the landing. Getting that wrong leaves a finished, machined piece that cannot reach the room, which is a remake rather than a trim. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw.

Getting stone into a Shadwell kitchen

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop fabrication in Shadwell
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Shadwell, or just list it?
Yes. Shadwell is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E1. It is run from the Essex side, covering Essex & East London. A red route means no stopping, and no stopping means exactly that, so the stone comes in from a side street or from a bay behind the property. Pieces are loaded in reverse fitting order so the first thing off the van is the first thing that goes down. The load plan follows from it. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop fabrication in Shadwell?
Piece size is set by the lift car and the entrance dogleg, which routinely turns a two-piece kitchen into a three-piece one. We work to the internal depth of the car and the diagonal you can actually stand a piece up on with the doors closed, then nest to that, which routinely turns a two-piece kitchen into a three-piece one with an extra join over a gable. Is access a problem in Shadwell?
The through road is a red route and the market street is closed to vehicles during trading, so timing the drop matters more than distance. Estate blocks have small lifts and long deck walkways; the new towers have a service lift but need a permit-to-work and a booked slot from the managing agent. A car that takes 2.4m on the diagonal will not take a three-metre worktop however it is stood, and there is no trimming it on the landing. The maximum piece length is fixed at drawing stage and every join is placed over a cabinet gable from there. The drawing carries that decision through to the saw. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Do you get much worktop fabrication work in Shadwell?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop installation and worktop design & quotation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. A second kitchen or a kitchenette in an annexe is a small job with the same fixed template, fabrication and fitting lines as a large one. Pieces are dry-assembled and checked on the bench before anything is loaded. Proven on the bench before dispatch. Where an annexe has been built or converted, its floor and its walls are newer than the main house and behave differently under the same run. Cutting several kitchens from different slabs and calling them matched is where firms get caught out. Proven on the bench before dispatch.
What decides the price of a worktop in Shadwell?
On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. Pieces are dry-assembled on the bench before dispatch so the corners are known to close before they leave the workshop. The bench proves it before the van does. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Taped internal angles in plasterboard belly at the corner, so the run picks up a few millimetres over the last 300mm and a plan-angle mitre will not close. Cut it square where it should be radiused and the piece will fail on the lift, not in the kitchen. The drawing decides it, not the fitter. Sink, tap and hob need to be with us before machining, along with confirmation of whether the island is getting a breakfast overhang, since anything past roughly 300mm unsupported needs steel let into the carcasses and that has to be built in, not added later. Where a landlord or housing provider is involved there is a specification to meet and a process to follow, and both are settled before a date is offered. Changing an appliance after the nest is set means recutting the piece, not adjusting it. The approved drawing is the instruction.
