Worktop templating in Northwick Park
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Northwick Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Old plaster built up over decades makes the scribing heavy, and that time has to be in the plan rather than found on the day. The template records what the building actually did, not what the plan intended, and the gap between those two is what this visit is for. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Interwar semis alongside purpose-built 1930s flat blocks, where the flats have fixed compact kitchens of around 2.7m against a services wall and cannot be reconfigured.
The houses take normal rear extensions, but a large slice of the local work is buy-to-let and short-let refits in the flats with hardwearing, plain material. Rental refits want the fewest possible visits, so template, fabricate and fit needs sequencing tightly around tenancy change dates.
The original kitchen was a small service room, so what is there now is a knock-through and the junction between the two floors is rarely level. Mansion-block kitchens usually have a serviced riser or boxed pipework somewhere in the run, and the boxing is rarely the same depth from one end to the other, so the template takes the depth at worktop height at several points rather than one reading. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
On these streets the housing is 1930s semi, 1930s mansion-style flat block and hospital and campus-related accommodation. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Flat, wide roads with drives on the houses; the flat blocks have communal entrances, half-landings and generally no lift, which limits piece size to what two people can turn on a stair.
Gravel and block paving both look like hard standing and neither takes a loaded trolley, so the run from tail lift to door gets boarded. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. The templater needs a proper stop, not a pause.

Questions
Worktop templating in Northwick Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you cover Northwick Park?
Yes. Northwick Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are HA1, HA3. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Does the housing in Northwick Park change how worktop templating works?
Inter-war purpose-built blocks have curved external walls and steel windows, so a run along an outside wall is following a genuine curve rather than a bow. Anything that has to stay accessible - stopcocks, gas meters, riser access panels - is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Rental refits want the fewest possible visits, so template, fabricate and fit needs sequencing tightly around tenancy change dates.
How does the stone actually reach a kitchen in Northwick Park?
Flat, wide roads with drives on the houses; the flat blocks have communal entrances, half-landings and generally no lift, which limits piece size to what two people can turn on a stair. Stone goes up on edge, and it is the half-landing turn rather than the flight itself that sets the maximum piece. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. It goes on the drawing with the run dimensions. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop templating common in Northwick Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Appliances on site, not on order. Why do two Northwick Park kitchens the same size price differently?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. Join positions and vein direction are marked on the template drawing before it leaves site. The drawing leaves site complete. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What has to be finished before you can template?
A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. Plotted, not estimated. Boxing and riser casings built, cased and finished to their final surface, units fixed and levelled, and building access, lift booking and porter arrangements agreed so both the template visit and the later fit can run. Where the owner is not local, the decisions happen remotely, so photographs and a clear itemised drawing carry more weight than a showroom visit ever would. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. No stone is cut from a plan.
