Worktop templating in Kidbrooke

A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.

Kidbrooke kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

2010s-2020s Kidbrooke Village apartmentsnew-build townhouse1930s semipostwar estate remnant

The lift car, the loading bay and the building manager decide the piece sizes here, not the slab. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. Sink, tap and hob on site, not on order.

Mostly new-build: apartments with an open-plan single run and island, and three-storey townhouses with the kitchen at ground level opening to a small garden. Developer worktops are thin composite or laminate, so the common job is upgrading to 20mm quartz without touching the units.

Infill plots usually put the kitchen at the back with wide doors to a small garden, and that opening is the best route in. New-build rooms are genuinely square, but they are dot-and-dab plasterboard, and the taped internal angle is where it goes wrong - the board bellies at the corner and the run picks up a few millimetres over the last 300mm. Two to three hours, once the units are in.

What we are usually templating in is 2010s-2020s Kidbrooke Village apartments, new-build townhouse, 1930s semi and postwar estate remnant. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.

True everywhere

Worktop templating, in short

  • Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
  • Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
  • Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
  • A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.

Covered from the New Malden patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here

Second or third on the list around here, after worktop replacement. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

Getting stone into the room

New estate roads with controlled parking, marked loading bays, and blocks with lobbies and lifts rather than street doors; permits and delivery windows go through the estate office.

Where the bay sits some distance from the core, the carry across the car park is the longest leg of the day and gets boarded and lit. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew.

The building, and what it does to the job

Everything is square and level for once, so the risk sits in the developer's sink and hob cut-outs, not the walls.

The internal corner - the room is square but the plasterboard is not, and a mitre cut to a plan angle will show a gap against the wall.

Questions

Worktop templating in Kidbrooke

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Is Kidbrooke on your patch?

Yes. Kidbrooke is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are SE3, SE9. It is run from the New Malden side, covering South West London & Surrey. Underground loading has a height restriction, and a van with an A-frame on it is taller than the driver remembers. A templater circling for a space arrives late into a slot that was already tight, and the drawing is what suffers. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Why would worktop templating in Kidbrooke be any different from anywhere else?

Access is a question about the plot rather than the house: a narrow frontage between older buildings with nowhere obvious to stand a van. The room is square and the plasterboard is not, so the internal corner is recorded as it is rather than as ninety degrees. Two to three hours, once the units are in. Everything is square and level for once, so the risk sits in the developer's sink and hob cut-outs, not the walls.

How would you get a worktop into a property in Kidbrooke?

New estate roads with controlled parking, marked loading bays, and blocks with lobbies and lifts rather than street doors; permits and delivery windows go through the estate office. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. The templater measures that route on the same visit, so the drawing leaves site already knowing the maximum piece. The laser records it along with everything else. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.

Is worktop templating common in Kidbrooke?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. The junction between the original room and the extension is the point to watch, because the two floors rarely sit at the same height. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Units fitted, fixed and level first. Rear and side-return extensions are where the islands appear, and an island is the piece that decides whether one slab does the kitchen or two. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.

What moves the number on a quote around here?

Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. Join positions and vein direction are marked on the template drawing before it leaves site. Real angles, not plan angles. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What needs to be ready before you come to Kidbrooke?

A lightweight stud partition will not carry a breakfast bar or a peninsula end, and stone finds that out faster than laminate ever did. It is recorded on the drawing with the run dimensions so the workshop is not guessing. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. Boards taped or skimmed and finished, units fixed back to the wall and levelled off, and the appliances on site - the wall must be at its final thickness on template day, so no tiler or splashback fitter gets ahead of the worktop. Where ownership is split across a building, the common parts belong to someone else and the carry route is negotiated rather than assumed. A template booked hopefully around another trade is the commonest cause of a wasted visit. Appliances on site, not on order.
