Worktop templating in Holborn
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
Holborn kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
This is a logistics job before it is a stone job, and the lift car is usually the single biggest constraint on the design. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Almost entirely flats, so kitchens are compact fixed rooms of 2.4-3m, usually galley, with services boxed into one corner.
Building management will want dust sheets, lift protection and a work window agreed in advance, so template and fit dates have to fit their access hours rather than yours. There is very little extension work here and the demand is replacing worn tops and upstands within an existing footprint. Congestion Charge zone with red routes on the main east-west roads and effectively no on-street loading near the estates, so access is via a service bay or a courtyard where one exists.
The lift is a small passenger car with a gate, and the alternative is a stone stair winding round the shaft with a turn at every half-landing. Anything that has to stay accessible - stopcocks, gas meters, riser access panels - is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn.
On these streets the housing is mansion block, post-war local-authority block, 1980s development and warehouse conversion. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

Getting stone into the room
Most blocks have lifts, but they are small passenger cars with a protection booking process attached.

What gets asked for here
This is not the local speciality and there is no point saying otherwise: worktop replacement, worktop splashbacks & upstands and worktop installation is what the housing here actually asks for. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way regardless.

The shape of the run
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. One datum for the whole room.

Questions
Worktop templating in Holborn
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Is Holborn on your patch?
Yes. Holborn is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are WC1, WC2, EC1. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. Where the frontage is a clearway the unload happens away from the door and the carry gets longer, which is a crew and time question rather than a stone one. It is noted on the job sheet at template so the fitting crew inherit the answer rather than rediscovering it. It goes on the job sheet for the fitting crew. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
Why would worktop templating in Holborn be any different from anywhere else?
These kitchens are full of boxed soil stacks, gas risers and heating pipework, and the boxing usually stops short of the ceiling. Anything that has to stay accessible - stopcocks, gas meters, riser access panels - is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. No stone is ever cut from a plan. Building management will want dust sheets, lift protection and a work window agreed in advance, so template and fit dates have to fit their access hours rather than yours.
How would you get a worktop into a property in Holborn?
Congestion Charge zone with red routes on the main east-west roads and effectively no on-street loading near the estates, so access is via a service bay or a courtyard where one exists. Most blocks have lifts, but they are small passenger cars with a protection booking process attached. The lift has to be booked and blanketed before anything moves, and that booking needs to cover the old tops coming out as well as the new stone going in. Door widths, turn diagonals and any change of level are recorded on the drawing alongside the run dimensions. That is part of what the visit is for. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is Holborn really a worktop templating area?
Not particularly, and it would be easy to pretend otherwise. What the research on this patch actually lists is worktop replacement, worktop splashbacks & upstands and worktop installation. That is a statement about the local housing rather than about the work. It is quoted, cut and fitted exactly the same way here as anywhere else on the patch. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. Appliances on site, not on order. Quartz suits let property well: no sealing, no annual maintenance, and nothing an incoming tenant has to be told to look after. Two to three hours on site, with the sink, tap and hob physically present. Units fitted, fixed and level first.
What moves the number on a quote around here?
Galley runs are usually short enough to come out of a single slab, so the material band you choose does more to the total than the room shape does. The template records every angle in that shape as it actually is rather than as the plan drew it. The drawing leaves site complete. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What needs to be ready before you come to Holborn?
A boxed soil stack or service riser in the corner of a run eats into the worktop depth and has to be scribed around rather than cut square. The laser plots it as it is, at the exact height the worktop will sit, and the drawing carries that through. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else. Boxing and riser casings built, cased and finished to their final surface, units fixed and levelled, and building access, lift booking and porter arrangements agreed so both the template visit and the later fit can run. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The templater needs the sink, tap and hob on site, and a Belfast sink installed at its final height. No stone is cut from a plan.
