Worktop templating in East Village
A digital template plotting the room as it really is, taken once your units are fitted, fixed and level.
East Village kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
Developer carcasses are thin cam-lock chipboard, which is entirely adequate under laminate and wants bracing before stone. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is why the visit happens after the units are in and not before. The room as it is, to the millimetre.
Every flat came with the same developer kitchen: a single-wall run of roughly 2.7m to 3.2m in an open living space, wall units to one side and a tall appliance stack, with no island.
Because the kitchens are identical across blocks, the layouts repeat, but the estate access rules mean the booking has to be made before the template is even scheduled. Almost all work here is replacing the original top like for like in a fully fitted kitchen, so cabinets stay and the stone has to match the existing sink and hob positions. The estate is car-free in the residential courtyards with a private management company controlling access, so vehicles use designated service bays and the last stretch is a trolley run across podium paving. Deliveries and lift use must be booked with the estate management team, usually with a fixed window and a lift protection requirement.
Dot-and-dab plasterboard bellies at a taped internal angle, so the run picks up a few millimetres over the last 300mm and a plan-angle mitre will not close. The template records that corner as it is, so the mitre closes tight instead of being cut to a theoretical 90 degrees. Two to three hours, once the units are in.
What turns up on the job sheets is 2012 athletes' village apartment and post-2015 infill apartment block. The differences between them show up at template, not at enquiry.
True everywhere
Worktop templating, in short
- Two to three hours on site for a typical kitchen.
- Units must be fitted, fixed and level first. No stone is ever cut from a plan.
- Sink, tap and hob must be physically on site, not just ordered.
- A Belfast or butler sink must be installed and at its final height.
Covered from the Essex patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here
This is one of the three jobs that come up most here, behind worktop replacement. It is the same template visit, the same workshop and the same installers either way.
period detached houses and villas
The building, and what it does to the job
Anything that has to stay accessible, a stopcock, a gas meter, a riser panel, is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. It is recorded on the drawing with the run dimensions so the workshop is not guessing. Measured at worktop height, nowhere else.

Getting stone into a East Village kitchen
The estate is car-free in the residential courtyards with a private management company controlling access, so vehicles use designated service bays and the last stretch is a trolley run across podium paving. Deliveries and lift use must be booked with the estate management team, usually with a fixed window and a lift protection requirement.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop templating in East Village
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in East Village, or just list it?
Yes. East Village is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are E20. It is run from the Essex side, covering Essex & East London. Bay bookings are usually an hour or two, which is fine for unloading and no use at all as a place to leave the van for a day. The templating visit needs somewhere to stop for two or three hours, which is a different problem from unloading for twenty minutes. Two hours is the realistic figure. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop templating in East Village?
Boxed soil stacks and ventilation ducts run behind the units, and the boxing depth changes between floor level and worktop height. New-build rooms are genuinely square, but they are dot-and-dab plasterboard, and the taped internal angle is where it goes wrong - the board bellies at the corner and the run picks up a few millimetres over the last 300mm. Recorded as it is, not as it was drawn. Because the kitchens are identical across blocks, the layouts repeat, but the estate access rules mean the booking has to be made before the template is even scheduled.
Is access a problem in East Village?
The estate is car-free in the residential courtyards with a private management company controlling access, so vehicles use designated service bays and the last stretch is a trolley run across podium paving. Deliveries and lift use must be booked with the estate management team, usually with a fixed window and a lift protection requirement. Where the lift will not take the longest run we design a join in rather than gamble, because a piece that will not go up has to go back on the van. A template taken without walking the route produces a drawing that cuts beautifully and will not go in. That is part of what the visit is for. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop templating common in East Village?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop replacement. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. Housings and integrated appliances are set out for a 38mm laminate top, so dropping to 20mm or 30mm stone changes the clearances and needs checking before anything is cut. No stone is ever cut from a plan, which is inconvenient exactly when a programme is tight. Appliances on site, not on order. Developer-fitted kitchens come with thin cam-lock carcasses, which are fine under laminate and want bracing before stone goes on them. The template visit is booked once the units are genuinely in, not when they are nearly in. The room as it is, not as it was drawn.
What decides the price of a worktop in East Village?
The catch with a galley is that both runs are seen end-on from the doorway, so any difference in overhang between the two reads immediately. A layout templated off one wall instead of one datum will not sit right once all the pieces are down together. The drawing leaves site complete. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. One measurement never describes it, which is why a tape reading taken before the visit rarely matches the template. Plotted, not estimated. Boards taped or skimmed and finished, units fixed back to the wall and levelled off, and the appliances on site - the wall must be at its final thickness on template day, so no tiler or splashback fitter gets ahead of the worktop. A street with houses in single occupation next to the same houses cut into flats produces two completely different jobs from the same elevation. The template happens when the units are in, fixed and level, whoever is fitting them. No stone is cut from a plan.
