Worktop installation in Dartmouth Park
Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.
Dartmouth Park kitchens
What the kitchens here are actually like
A hundred and forty years of alterations sit under the current kitchen, and the worktop is what has to sit flat on top of all of it. The fitting day is planned backwards from all of it, before the first piece comes off the van. The route is walked before the first lift.
Substantially whole houses in owner occupation, so the classic job is a rear or side-return extension with a 4m run along one wall and a true island of 2.4-3m.
Kitchens sit across the back of the ground floor with doors to a long garden, and clients here nearly always want a matching island top rather than a peninsula. Steep tree-lined streets with permit bays both sides and no room to double park, and the gradient matters when you are walking a slab on an A-frame. Front doors are up a short flight with a long straight hall to the rear, so it is the kerb-to-door step that catches people out rather than the internal run.
The addition wall is half a brick thick in places and has usually had a damp course injected and been re-plastered, which leaves it neither flat nor consistent. The day is planned backwards from the hall. That is the shape of the day.
What turns up on the job sheets is late Victorian terrace, Victorian semi-detached villa and Edwardian house. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.
True everywhere
Worktop installation, in short
- One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
- Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
- We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
- Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.
Covered from the Watford patch. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces
Getting stone into the room
Without a bay the van ends up on a single yellow with a crew member watching it, which takes a pair of hands off the carry. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. We would rather ask than guess.

What gets asked for here
Second or third on the list around here, after worktop templating. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

The building, and what it does to the job
The rear wall is usually a single brick thick and has been rendered, patched and re-rendered, so it bows in and out along the length of the run. The day is planned backwards from the hall, and the scribing takes longer than the carry. That is the shape of the day.
The island is usually the biggest single piece of the job, so book the extra pair of hands and check the extension floor is level first, because new screed over old joist lines rarely is.

Getting stone into a Dartmouth Park kitchen
Steep tree-lined streets with permit bays both sides and no room to double park, and the gradient matters when you are walking a slab on an A-frame. Front doors are up a short flight with a long straight hall to the rear, so it is the kerb-to-door step that catches people out rather than the internal run.
Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions
Worktop installation in Dartmouth Park
If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.
Do you actually work in Dartmouth Park, or just list it?
Yes. Dartmouth Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are NW5. It is run from the Watford side, covering Hertfordshire & North London. Enforcement zones rarely accept a trade van unloading stone as an exemption, so this gets sorted before the date is confirmed rather than argued about afterwards. We aim for the first slot of the day where parking is tight, because that is when the street is emptiest. The day is built around that window. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.
What is different about worktop installation in Dartmouth Park?
Where the side return has been filled in, the old external wall is now an internal one and still carries its render, its gutter line and its old fixings. The day is planned backwards from the hall. The slow parts are slow for a reason. The island is usually the biggest single piece of the job, so book the extra pair of hands and check the extension floor is level first, because new screed over old joist lines rarely is.
Is access a problem in Dartmouth Park?
Steep tree-lined streets with permit bays both sides and no room to double park, and the gradient matters when you are walking a slab on an A-frame. Front doors are up a short flight with a long straight hall to the rear, so it is the kerb-to-door step that catches people out rather than the internal run. Carrying through the house means protecting the whole route first: floor boarded, banister padded, and the front door held open on a wedge rather than by hand. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. None of it is worked out on the doorstep. Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it.
Is worktop installation common in Dartmouth Park?
It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop templating. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. One visit, done properly. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave.
What decides the price of a worktop in Dartmouth Park?
A galley puts the sink on one side and the hob on the other, which spreads the cut-outs across two pieces instead of weakening one. On the day that means dry-laying the whole layout first and only then pulling and bonding the joins. Nothing is bonded until the whole run sits flat. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.
What do I need to sort out first?
Legs bottoming out on hard concrete or an uneven screed mean the tops of the carcasses are not one plane, and that is picked up at template rather than on fitting day. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Clear the full hall and stairs route of furniture, bikes, coats and stair-gates, and keep the front door propped and unobstructed for the carry. An owner living in the house makes the decisions and lives with them, so the specification tends to go towards the material rather than towards the lowest total. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. One visit, our own installers.
