Worktop installation in Worcester Park

Fitting day: protected route, back edges scribed to the real wall line, joins pulled flush, sink and hob sealed.

Worcester Park kitchens

What the kitchens here are actually like

1930s semi1930s detachedpost-war detached2000s apartment development

Two runs and a return into a rear extension is the pattern, and the return is the piece that never nests neatly on a slab. Almost everything that makes a fitting day hard is a property of the building rather than of the stone. Sink and hob seated and sealed before we go.

Family suburban stock with a strong extension culture, so most kitchens here have already been pushed out to the rear and the job is a well-planned kitchen-diner with a 2m island, a run of tall units and a separate utility. Newer apartment schemes near the station have compact peninsula kitchens.

The classic arrangement is the original back room with a later extension bolted onto it, so the kitchen is two ages of building in one room. The fitting itself is slower than the carry: original plaster on the party wall and around the old chimney breast is rarely square to the run, so back scribes get cut on site, and where a return wraps into a breast recess we template that shoulder tight and ease it in. That is the shape of the day.

On these streets the housing is 1930s semi, 1930s detached, post-war detached and 2000s apartment development. Each of those behaves differently once the old top comes off.

True everywhere

Worktop installation, in short

  • One visit. A straightforward run is a morning; an island and splashbacks take most of the day.
  • Every piece is carried in by hand, and stone does not bend.
  • We seat and seal the sink and hob. We do not connect water, waste, gas or electrics.
  • Floors and units are protected before anything comes through the door.

Covered on our south London run. Fitted 3–7 working days from template.

What gets asked for here

Second or third on the list around here, after worktop design & quotation. Same visit, same bench, same crew, same lead time.

1930s and inter-war semis

The building, and what it does to the job

There are a lot of hob-and-extractor combinations here that need a downdraft cut-out in the worktop, which changes the island layout and has to be agreed with the appliance spec before templating.

Anything that has to stay accessible, a stopcock, a gas meter, a riser panel, is marked on the template so the stone is cut around it instead of over it. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Eased in, never forced.

Access

Getting stone into a Worcester Park kitchen

Residential roads with driveways and side gates, so access is good, but the station approach and the roads around the parade are congested at school and commuter times.

Tell us what the approach looks like when you book the template and it gets built into the day rather than discovered on it. Where the route is genuinely tight, it changes how the pieces are cut, which is a fabrication decision rather than a delivery one.

Questions

Worktop installation in Worcester Park

If yours is not here, ring and ask. You get a straight answer rather than a call-back from a salesperson.

Is Worcester Park on your patch?

Yes. Worcester Park is on the patch, and the postcodes we work here are KT4. It is worked on our south London run, along with the rest of Sutton. Off-street parking means the van stays put all day, so tools, packers and the offcut we would rather have than not are all within reach. The fitting slot is set around it, which is why we ask about it when the date is booked and not before we leave the yard. It is why the arrival time is what it is. We template in your kitchen and fit in your kitchen, so there is nothing to visit and nothing to collect.

Why would worktop installation in Worcester Park be any different from anywhere else?

The classic arrangement is the original back room with a later extension bolted onto it, so the kitchen is two ages of building in one room. The carry is the easy part; the plaster around the old breast and the packing over a moved floor are not. That is the shape of the day. There are a lot of hob-and-extractor combinations here that need a downdraft cut-out in the worktop, which changes the island layout and has to be agreed with the appliance spec before templating.

How would you get a worktop into a property in Worcester Park?

Residential roads with driveways and side gates, so access is good, but the station approach and the roads around the parade are congested at school and commuter times. The side passage is the measurement that matters, because a piece has to be carried flat down it and then turned in at the back door, and the turn is always tighter than the passage. Finding it out on the morning costs the whole slot, because there is no second route to fall back on. None of it is worked out on the doorstep.

Is worktop installation common in Worcester Park?

It is one of the three we do most here, behind worktop design & quotation. Same template visit, same workshop, same installers either way. A new extension slab is not automatically level, and that wants checking before templating rather than after the stone is cut. Where the window is fixed there is no second day to fall back on, so the prep list matters more than usual. The prep list is not optional. Extension kitchens are usually specified long before they are buildable, so the run lengths on the drawing and the run lengths in the room are different numbers. One visit, with the sink and hob seated and sealed before we leave. Sealed before we leave.

What moves the number on a quote around here?

On a heavily veined stone the island and the run behind it are nested off the same area of slab so the movement relates across the room. Joins are pulled with suction clamps and finished flush, then colour-matched, which is the last thing done rather than the first. The join is the last thing finished. Material is £110-£550 per square metre supply only, and templating, fabrication and fitting are quoted on their own lines.

What needs to be ready before you come to Worcester Park?

A notch around a boxed stack is machined with a radius at the internal corner, because a square inside corner there is exactly where a top will crack. On the day it means dry-laying, marking, and cutting the scribe on site before anything is bonded. Dry-lay, mark, cut, then bond. Unlock and clear the side gate and back door, and move bins, planters and washing lines out of the alley run. Where someone is living in the house through the work, the strip-out and the fit are planned so the kitchen is out of use for a day and not a week. The fitting day is arranged with whoever can actually give us access for the whole slot. Access for the whole slot, or a different day.
